Cocktail Friday – Bloody Eyeball Martini

Happy Hallowe'en everyone! Or Happy Samhain to my Celtic friends (the Celtic New Year and inspiration for all our modern-day Hallowe'en celebrations). I'm getting into the swing of things and our cocktail today would not be appropriate for a wedding (unless you were a zombie bride) but it would be killer at a Hallowe'en bash! And yes, pun was totally intended.

It requires a bit of fussing but the results are so ghoulishly cool, I think it's worth it. 

Bloody Eyeball Martini Bloody Eyeball Martini

2 oz gin or vodka

1/2 oz dry vermouth

1 small pimento-stuffed green olive

1 large radish (olive has to be inserted into radish)

**Eyeballs must be made day-ahead. 





To make eyeballs:

Peel radish, leaving thin streaks of red skin on to resemble blood vessels. Making eyeball martini

With the tip of a knife, scoop out a small hole in the radish, roughly the size of the olive.

Stuff an olive, pimento side out, into the radish so it looks like an eyeball. 

Olive & radish 'eyeball' Place one 'eyeball' into each section of an ice tray. Pare down radish to fit if needed, fill tray with water and place into freezer. 



To make cocktail:

Place gin or vodka and vermouth into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well, strain into martini glass and plunk an 'eyeball' into the glass. Enjoy as Hallowe'en mayhem ensues…
